Karen Vaughan Said: There is a second edition now ( Dec. 20th 2007 )

The second edition, under a revised title, Winston & Kuhn's Herbal Therapy and Supplements: A Scientific and Traditional Approach is available, with more monographs and updated research. This Amazon listing isn't clear that it is the first and not second edition.

Josi Martin Said: Superb pocket guide ( May. 7th 2007 )

A truly excellent pocket-sized guide to herbs and some nutritional supplements. It contains constituents, traditional uses, current uses and any contraindications. Well worthwhile.

Michael L. Sox Said: An excellent research, study, and reference guide... ( Jun. 6th 2006 )

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Merrily Kuhn, but I have met David Winston on a few occasions and will say that this book is a treasure. Concise, but detailed it contains explanations and information on current use, traditional use, nutritional ingredients, bio-chemical constituents, dosage and administration, preparation, toxicity, contraindications, side effects, long-term safety, pregnancy/childhood risk, special notes, and references for most herbs and nutrients in use today. It does assume a knowledge of bio-chemistry for constituents, but it is not necessary to use since every constituents is listed with its action if known. I would consider this a necessary addition to any herbal/nutritional/naturopathic study program as it has been a valuable aid in my own understanding and study for my Doctorate in Naturopathy. This book gives a simple, but solid foundation (especially with the bibliography) that can help to give scientific roots to the wonderful healing art of herbalism and deepen anyone's knowledge who wishes to further their study of herbs.

C. Holt Said: Herbal Therapy for Health Care Providers ( Sep. 7th 2001 )

An excellent reference book. I have met David Winston and find him to be a brilliant researcher, writer, and speaker. Any doctor's office or nurse will find this book helpful to answer patient's and their own questions about herbal medicine and it's place along side allopathic care.
