Question #11:

which is more calories? half a 13.5 inch pizza or a whole 9.5 inch pizza?

I'm getting a garden special pizza from papa johns in england, with a thick crust. I don;t know whether to get a whole 9.5 inch one or to share a 13.5 inch one with my dad. On the usa papa johns nutritional info, it says that a whole 10 inch veggie would be 840 cals, but half a 14 inch would be 1120! (their sizes are slightly different.) However, the whole pizza weighs 644g whereas half the bigger pizza is 468g. Surely less weight is less calories? I'm so confused! And for some of the other pizzas, half a bigger one is less calories than half a smaller one...
Which is less calories?

Question #13:

Can you live off nutrition shakes healthfully?

I'm starting a meal plan to help me put on some muscle weight and the changes I have made make me not even want to eat. The more I stress what I am eating the less I want to eat. I really like these protein shakes I've been making out of enriched vanilla soymilk, carnation instant breakfast, and peanutbutter. I could easily get enough calories, and there are lots of nutrients. What I am curious about is if your body can continue to absorb these unnatural sources of nutrients as a primary source?

BTW, I'm not going to do this. I will keep up my the diet I have laid out for myself with some pouting, but I am curious if you can do this and if it as healthy as the nutritional info makes it look?

Question #15:

Hair loss and medicines?

My friend started losing her hair in November 2008. This wasn't bald patches, but general hairloss all over. She had been Lansoprazole 30mg tablets for about 2 years with no problems. She stopped using them for 11 months, in case the problem with her hair resulted from the tablets, but her hair continued to fall out throughout these months.

In October 2009, she began to use the tablets again. 3 weeks later, her hair ceased falling out for 6 months, but now, has again started to fall out again in the last 3 months (May 2010). Could the tablets have anything to do with this, as it is a rare side effect of them?

Also, she saw a doctor in February 2009. She was told that she suffers from chronic telogen effluvium related to nutritional problems and low iron. After taking iron supplements, her iron levels have become better. Her ferritin is now 50 mg, a rise from 21. Could the hair loss still be related to iron deficiency, despite being higher?

An answer to both of these questions would be useful. By the way, she is 49.

Question #16:

Question #17:

What can give me lots of protein for when after I workout?

I'm a 14 year old girl.. this might sound strange but I want MUSCLE, not bulky body builder muscle..
just athletic, toned, healthy looking muscle. right now i'm underweight (88lbs)
I workout 3 days a week lifting weights and such.. (I go to the gym)

I was just wondering, Am I too young to be taking whey protein powder? I asked a personal trainer and she said talk to my doctor. I asked my doctor before and she said just use nutritional shakes (Ensures, Boost, etc) But I really don't like them because they are full of crap and sugar..I want straight protein,

plus they cost loads of money for just 6. it's easier if I just buy a whole container of powder for $20 and it'll last me months..I'm thinking about buying this

Would it be fine for me to use this? What if I just use half a scoop? I don't want THAT much protein, Just the right amount for a petite girl like me..Also, don't say "just eat.... (blah, blah)"
I don't like to eat after I workout. I want to drink something that's fast...not eat

Question #20:

Simple chemistry question?

I am having trouble with the following problems, and I don't know how I should approach them. I would appreciate it if you could please help me with any of them. Thank you!

1) Samples of gold, silver, aluminum, chromium and copper are being tested in a science laboratory. Their specific heats are as follows:

gold: C = 0.129 J/g°C
silver: C = 0.234 J/g°C
aluminum: C = 0.895 J/g°C
chromium: C = 0.450 J/g°C
copper: C = 0.377 J/g°C

In the lab, equal amounts of heat are added to equal mass samples of each of these elements. Rank the metals according to which would reach the highest final temperature.

options:
Nonsense! Each metal would reach the same final temperature.
Au < Ag < Cu < Cr < Al
Au < Ag < Al < Cr < Cu
Cr < Cu < Al < Ag < Au
Al < Cr < Cu < Ag < Au

2) In order to determine the Calorie content of a brownie, a nutritional chemist burns a 5.44 gram sample of the brownie in a bomb calorimeter containing 2070 g of water. She finds that the temperature increases from 24.0°C to 35.3°C. Determine the amount of heat released per gram of brownie burned. (Cwater = 4.184 J/g°C)

3) The specific heats of water in its various states are:

ice: 2.0 J/g/°C
liquid: 4.2 J/g/°C
steam: 2.0 J/g/°C

The enthalpy change values for water's changes of state are:

heat of fusion at 273 K: 6.01 kJ/mol
heat of vaporization at 373 K: 40.7kJ/mol

Using this information, determine the quantity of heat required to change 66.6 g of ice from a temperature of -27.0°C to steam at a final temperature of 159.3°C.
